Tennis, Best Dressed Sport?

I wish I were good at tennis. I really tried last year but it resulted in a broken tennis racket and a bunch of lost balls. Fitness is my thing, but actual sports, not so much. Playing tennis seems like so much fun and I know people obsess over their court time but whats even better is the clothing. It has to be one of the best dressed sports! The short frilly skirts and adorable shirts are my favorite. I might just have to play dress up on a walk this summer… On to the clothes!

One of my favorite frilly tennis skirts is actually a skort. Remember skorts? Basically, you could go to school, look cute and still play on the monkey bars. Well, look cute and play tennis in this LIJA Clothing Deuce Skort.

The Margarita Activewear Skirt #750 looks like you could definitely wear the skirt out or on the tennis court. I absolutely love the pattern and look but it also has some amazing features. The skirt has a body slimming design, its breathable and sweat wicking, it keeps it shape and dries quickly. You will definitely make a fashion statement on the tennis court!

LIJA Arcade Tank Top

The LIJA Clothing Arcade Tank is another favorite tennis top of mine. I definitely think you can wear it to all different types of activities. It has a great shelf bra and mesh detailed seaming. The V-neck and seaming under the chest is very flattering.

Zobha Anya Dress

On to the dresses! If you read the ActivewearUSA blog frequently, you know my love of putting on one piece of clothing. Its easy, simple and looks great. The Zobha Anya Dress is one of my absolute favorite tennis dresses. It is feminine, flattering and the Emerald/Capri color is beautiful. There is a shelf bra with removable cups, pleated skirt and the back design is so much fun.

The Cool Kind of Head Gear

Remember head gear? Or did you block it out of your memories from your middle school days? We can pretend that it never happened and focus on the cool kind of head gear, like head bands to keep your hair and sweat out of your face while keeping style in the forefront of your mind, literally.

Its always fun to wear something different but chic. Check out the Cozy Orange Hatha Headband. I love this headband for a few reasons:

1. The width is great for wild hair days. In the summer, I wear my hair curly a lot. I think curls would look really cute in the Hatha Headband.

2. It’s made from recycled plastic bottles! I’m always a fan when fashionable items are made from recycled materials. Good job Cozy Orange!

3. It’s adjustable. Just like the rest of our bodies, we all have different size heads, too. I like when a headband is snug but not cutting off my circulation. It’s great to have options!

At the end of 2010, I re-visited my Bucket List!!! As a physician passionate about my two specialties, i.e., Ophthalmology and Age Management Medicine, I am always seeking to continue my education. This allows me to add value to my community at large and my community of loved ones. So, as part of my commitment starting in 2011 and at the age of 52 years, I decided to be a founding member of an outstanding group of exercise enthusiasts – SELF (Sisters Engaged in Life-Long Fitness). The goals of this closed Facebook group were to exercise 234 days a year; and either accomplish a half marathon or a 50-mile bike tour. In my local city of Shreveport, LA, I excitedly involved myself in various exercise forms, not only for the above challenge but to share with my Health and Wellness patients. I had a chance to explore some exciting exercise activities and support local lady-owned businesses, some of whom are my patients. When I plan my days, I aim to use my body as a canvas for which I can be creative…looking my best!!! The same holds true while exercising, because from a psychological standpoint, this concept allows me to perform well. By networking with my “Zumba Goddess” Instructor, I discovered ACTIVEWEARUSA!!! With the professional guidance of “Sweet Leyla”, I immediately ordered my first pair of the Margarita Pants (#805, ribbon) for the scheduled Zumbathon Fund-Raiser, supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Because I love speaking with Leyla, she assisted me in my next order of Margarita Pants (#510, daisy).

When I received them I wore them to all of my classes – Hula Hoop, Belly Dancing, Zumba, Aerial Yoga, Pilates and even Fencing. Everyone I encountered both in class and causally complimented me (the pants) and they literally wanted to take the pants off of me!!! Day to Night Dress Options

My favorite piece of clothing to wear is definitely a dress. I love not having to to think about putting together an entire outfit but instead just slip on one item of clothing. Plus, its nice and airy for hot summer days. If you do want to add more to an outfit, its fun to play with accessories, shoes, jewelry, hair and makeup and layering pieces. Basically, you have the choice; keep it simple or make it interesting. Ladies, I think we all can agree we love to have options!

Option #1 A Fun Print!

Tassels, print and the cut make the Jala High/Low Dress interesting and fun. Since it already has a lot of details, I’d keep it simple with some flip flops and a big pair of sunglasses. The straps are big enough to cover up your bra straps and the dress can easily go from the beach to out to dinner.

The Zobha Wrap Waist Dress is perfect for any outing. The longer length and flattering wrap style makes this dress fashionable for work, play or walking on the beach. My suggestion, just switch up your shoes and you are good to go. Also, the scoop back is adorable!

Outdoor Fitness Ideas

Ever feel like you are either completely committed to fitness or completely committed to your your beach chair? I think a lot of us deal with this challenge for finding workout and an overall healthy balance. During the summer it can sometimes be challenging to get to the gym or your regular fitness class because its “just so nice outside” and there are “only so many beach days in a summer!”

Here are a few ideas on how to stay active while enjoying the warm summer months!

1. Outdoor Fitness Classes

Outdoor fitness classes are a win-win situation. You can take your favorite class and still be outside! Just don’t forget your sunscreen. I am putting on an outdoor fitness series in Boston and I know a lot of other cities and towns provide them for the community. Often times they are free or by donation. Make sure you look at your local online newspapers, I’m sure something is available in your area.

2. Kayaking

Just In and Just Fabulous

As I was writing a blog post on a different topic, I hopped over to the Just In section and saw some MPG Sport pieces that are so fabulous, I had to stop what I was doing and share with you all!

When shopping for activewear, I have a few rules to keep me focused. My favorite pieces have to be:

1. Functional. Pieces have to transition well to different types of fitness activities and everyday life.

2. Unique. It has to either stand out or be such an amazing classic that it’s unique on its own.

3. Shape. I say it a lot, but shape is so important. It’s especially important when wearing fitted clothing. I look at the seaming and cut since they are factors that define shape.

Okay lets talk new clothing that include all three of my fabulous activewear requirements!

Chevron is in right now from clothes, wall paper and furniture. I love the long length and the racerback. Its nice to have a looser fit sometimes.

I love the Simha Capris because of their lower rise and red V shaped waist. I’m also a fan of dark colored workout pants that are not black. I tend to mainly have black pants in my closet so it’s nice to find something a little different. These pants have a reflective logo for outdoor workouts.

I like to have some pants that are functional that don’t show off every single curve. I love the heather gray MPG Balance Pants because they are fitted but are a fit and flare style so they aren’t skin tight. I can picture these pants going from a walk to a random yoga session. They will definitely be a great weekend look!

Sunbathing, ActivewearUSA Style

I had the pleasure of speaking with Tatyane Martins who owns Equilibrium Activewear with her mother, Jane Martins. Jane founded the activewear line create a life of passion that gave her the flexibility to take care of her children. I am really inspired after hearing how Tatyane and Jane Martins established their company 17 years ago. You can feel the drive, passion and love they have for the clothing and family business.

Q: What inspired you to create a line of activewear?

A: My mom has always been on the run taking care of our family and also into fitness. She wanted to be able to wear something comfortable and fashionable that she could wear during the day, both at the gym and everyday life.

Q: What are the fitness principles that you try to live by?

A: Its important to always enjoy exercise and change up your fitness routine. I am a big fan of spin, yoga and dance classes. Changing up your exercise keeps you happy and keeps you motivated. To me, fitness is not just about looking good but its also about feeling good.

Q: What’s your current favorite piece in your line and why?

Bahama Blue Tie Dye Pant

A: My favorite item right now is the Bahama Blue Tie Dye Pant. Its extremely comfortable to wear and to go out in because of the fit, it gives you a lot of support and it looks amazing. I always where these pants when traveling because of how comfortable and supportive they are.

Q: Have you directly inspired others to be more fit? How?

The collection definitely inspires others to be fit by being so versatile. Equilibrium is fun and a great way to switch it up. People feel supported in the clothing due to the Supplex fabric. It hides cellulite and lifts your butt. Once customers try it on, they feel amazing and your motivated to look and feel better.

Tatyane also told me that Equilibrium Activewear is based off of Brazilian style. You can definitely see how you would be ready to take any fitness class or do your errands in Miami, which is where they are based.
