Mandy first stumbled upon yoga by accident. She had moved 1,200 miles away from her home, family and friends for just about every wrong reason possible. Bored, unhappy, and feeling lost, she wandered into a video store, purchased a yoga DVD and was forever hooked. Soon afterward, she felt reconnected to her inner strength, took control of her life and moved on. It wasn't until several years later that she made the association between her yoga practice and feeling empowered to make changes.
Mandy has practiced yoga for more than a decade and over the years it has become an unwavering theme that stepping onto her yoga mat helps her reconnect to her inner truth. Through her yoga practice, and with the support of family and friends, she left her Engineering career to teach yoga and offer yoga therapy full-time. Mandy owns her own yoga studio in Central Pennsylvania, and provides a space and atmosphere where people can "come as they are and do as they want". She believes that everyone can do yoga, regardless of fitness level, body shape, or limitations. She supports her clients and students to trust and listen to their bodies, finding their own yoga practice, rather than mimicking an external teacher.
For Mandy, yoga is an opportunity to slow down and turn within. She believes without a doubt that our emotions, life situations and bodies are inner connected. "If you want to know how you are really feeling, ask your body, not your mind," Mandy says. While leading postures in yoga class, Mandy asks her students to turn inward and notice their experience, reminding them that information can come in many ways - thoughts, sensations, changes in breath, emotions, memories, colors... While working one-on-one with clients, as a Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist, Mandy helps others to access their own inner truth through supported yoga postures, breath work, meditation, and dialogue.
She received her first yoga teaching certification in 2003 (Hatha Yoga with a Kripalu influence), and later became a certified Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist and Instructor, and Prenatal Yoga Instructor. Mandy has achieved Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) status with the Yoga Alliance, and is also a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Additionally, Mandy is a Nationally Certified Holistic Health Counselor, and has studied Reiki, Thai Massage, and many other body movement therapies.
When not with her yoga clients and students, Mandy spends her time landscaping, gardening, canning, and cooking with her husband, Andy. She also enjoys spending time outside, hiking and biking.
