Fine artist Steve Sas Schwartz founded GGO in the early 90's in New York. Being passionate about painting led Steve to develop an interest in clothing design after opening and running the first skateboard shop to display fine art (Skate NYC) in the mid nineteen eighties. The Global Ghetto Organics brand emerged from that era and has continued to grow ever since.
Anna Sui, Kenneth Cole and Susan Hutton have all been clients of Steve and he has collaborated with a number of other well known figures in the design industry. GGO developed into a yoga focused brand for both sexes after Steve and his wife, Vivica (Schwartz) collaborated to streamline the brand and incorporate an even larger amount of environmental awareness into the clothing line.
